A few 'interesting' tactics you guys might want to try.

Today I've been thinking a lot about anti-tank mines, and I thought of something... Sort of interesting, I think.

It's been known for a while that anti-tank mines can be shot to blow them up, or can be blown up in an explosive chain reaction started by C4 and grenades, so I just thought about a few ways I think are interesting to use them.

The first is somewhat specific, and pertains mainly to Close Quarters domination mode.

Basically, you set up your anti-tank mines a few meters away from the flag, in a circle, not too close to the flag though. The idea behind this is to basically give yourself a large radius grenade. How? Well, you throw the grenade at the flag, and it usually will damage someone who is close to the grenade, or they'll run as soon as they see it and avoid damage. The idea here is that the grenade will blow up and trigger the anti-tank mines, killing the enemy if he decided to hide just out of range of the grenade, or if he didn't get far enough away in time. It should make your grenades potentially more lethal, or the grenades of other teammates, provided you/they throw the grenades at the objective when people are near it. It may not be the most useful thing, but it's a like having a grenade that covers a helluva lot more ground.

The second idea can pertain to many maps, and relies on your knowledge of those maps. There are parts of every single map where people like to camp, or corners/cover they like to pop out from and get shoot from then go back behind those corners/cover. Placing a tank mine right near those corners pre-emptively might be a good idea, if it's TDM or a Close Quarters map, since those tank-mines won't be doing a whole lot. So if an enemy keeps popping out of cover, you can shoot the mine you placed by that frequently used area and take him out from around a corner, or destroy his cover without having to waste a rocket/grenade.

The third idea I came up with will rely on your ability to communicate effectively with a teammate. One of you will play engineer, the other will play recon. This tactic is intended for TDM as well. Basically, the engineer will place anti-tank mines in places the enemy frequently passes by or occupies for long amounts of time due to a height advantage or high amount of cover. After setting up the mines, the engineer will go about his business as usual, shooting at people, getting kills. Meanwhile the recon player will go about his business, but here's the great part: the recon player can take out enemies much more quickly by shooting the anti-tank mine instead of trying to hit a target that is possibly changing its stance rapidly or constantly strafing to avoid getting hit by snipers while the target occupies an advantageous area. Of course this tactic will also rely on the recon player getting to an area where they have a line of sight on the explosives the engineer has placed. It is also best for the engineer to place these mines when the areas are not under a large amount of fire. If the engineer passes through an area where enemies are very likely to be at, but is currently empty, placing them for when the enemy eventually shows up will help.

Now none of these tactics are guaranteed to work, nor have they been rigorously tested. But in theory, they should give you a slight advantage. This is mainly because engineers aren't very useful in modes like TDM or Domination, so these are a few ways for them to put those tank mines to 'good' use. I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to make these tactics work, but if you get the chance, why not put those tank mines to use with one of these tactics, a slight advantage is better than no advantage.

I'm going to have to try this when I get the chance. I'll be honest, I don't normally deal with mines. But I've been a prime target for being killed by them.

Thanks for sharing.
