Precincts
The New Team of Weapons and Tactics is a continually evolving gaming community that has continued to grow since the organization began its roots in 2008. While we are certainly not the largest gaming community by any means— with more than 400 members and growing, along with the multitude of platforms that we support, it became clear to us that we needed a better system to organize our members so that they could have the best possible experience.
In November 2017, we introduced a new system where members were organized into precincts— smaller sized groups within the New Team of Weapons and Tactics, each led by a single Captain, a couple of Lieutenants, and a few Sergeants. While each precinct has exactly one Captain, there are typically 2-4 Lieutenants, and 3-6 Sergeants, although there is no theoretical hard limit to the maximum number of Lieutenants or Sergeants per precinct. Each precinct, including its members and the actions that occur within that precinct are the full responsibility of its captain, who is carefully appointed position by the original Commissioners (formerly Founders) of the New Team of Weapons and Tactics.
Precincts are to designed to help members more easily play with one another. This works well because members within each precinct are most likely to play together the most on the same platforms and are most likely to live in similar timezones or have similar coinciding schedules. This setup also increases the chances of members having more mutual friends (members or otherwise) to play online, ultimately providing the best possible experience for all members including the rank and file, as well as management.
Within each precinct, captains are free to select their preferred Lieutenant(s) and Sergeant(s) to help them most effectively manage their precinct. Captains can also recommend Lieutenants who have shown exemplary behavior for promotion to Captain, either as their direct successor, or as a potential candidate for an all-new precinct. By contrast, Captains also have the power to demote any problematic Lieutenants or Sergeants under their command as they see fit, and are able to transfer or dismiss members from their precinct entirely. Dismissal from a precinct does not necessarily mean a member shall be terminated entirely— depending on the circumstances of the dismissal, they could simply be transferred to another precinct.
When joining the New Team of Weapons and Tactics, members are given the opportunity to choose their preferred precinct. If the member is approved and there is room in their preferred precinct, they will usually be placed in their precinct of choice. In circumstances where room is not available, members may choose another precinct or can be placed in any precinct based on availability. Members are also free to apply for transfer to another precinct anytime, anywhere, for any reason.
